Today Gold Creek flows into the Gastineau Channel along Egan Drive, however in 1880 the terminus of Gold Creek was a little further up the waterway and is where gold was first found in this area. This discovery of gold let to the founding of the town, which in 1881 became Juneau.
Most mornings I walked along Egan Drive and in doing so would take a picture down the Gastineau Channel from the same spot at Gold Creek. The images show the changes in the weather, tide, season, daylight and later development over the course of five years.
